Soviet assault groups during WWII were specially trained units used to
attack
enemy fortifications and for close combat actions in towns and villages.
These
combat groups were armed with submachine-guns PPS and PPС, heavy Goryunov
machine guns and flamethrowers. Assault groups fought often in combination
with
heavy tanks JS-2 or self-propelled guns JSU-122.
