Another great biographic disaster film that's about a mountaineering pioneer's dream of motivating client's to reach the submit of the highest mountain (Mt Everest) in the world, until a situation goes wrong.

Very interesting to see what goes into climbing the biggest mountain in the world.....it’s more of a trip into the freezer but still a movie well worth watching

"Inspiring true story"

I really enjoyed this version of the story surrounding the tragedy surrounding an expedition of climbers attempting to climb Mt Everest. I had read a number of different versions based on the accounts of different survivors, but I think this film version is very fair to all those involved. Despite the tragic events that transpire, this film is still hugely inspirational. The film documents the determination to climb this mountain, the compassion shown by climbers towards their fellow climbers, and the cruelty of Mother Nature at her worst.

Description

Everest

On the morning of May 10, 1996, climbers (Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin) from two expeditions start their final ascent toward the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. With little warning, a violent storm strikes the mountain, engulfing the adventurers in one of the fiercest blizzards ever encountered by man. Challenged by the harshest conditions imaginable, the teams must endure blistering winds and freezing temperatures in an epic battle to survive against nearly impossible odds.

2 Guns helmer Baltasar Kormakur directs Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, and John Hawkes in this adventure docudrama set in 1996, when a number of simultaneous expeditions up Mount Everest resulted in the deaths of eight climbers.

Critic Reviews:

  • " Everest's uncanny realism is a big part of what keeps you in its icy thrall. " – Max Weiss
  • " For all the natural spectacle, the characters are what hold one's attention. " – Ben Sachs
  • " Everest is a slow burn of a movie but it's one that proves to be worth it. " – David Bax
