"Not at all what I expected"
5 stars"

I'd formed an opinion of this movie before even seeing it and was pleasantly surprised. There's an actual story line, not just all computer generated graphics and this story line holds one's interest through the entire movie. For those worried that their children may be scared by this movie, yes, there are some terrifying looking beasts, BUT none of them does anything in the least ‘scary’…in fact Harry Potter is scarier in many aspects.

"The muggle steals the show"
4 stars"

This is a very enjoyable movie, the characters are slightly awkward, but still easy to like. The muggle though is definitely the show stealer. The main character reminds me of my son who is ASD with the lack of eye contact, it was nice to see that in a mainstream movie without it being the main point of the movie. Both my boys enjoyed it (they're 13 and 14) and so did I.

Recommend watching this if you want to know more about the wizarding world that's beyond the Harry Potter series.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” takes us to a new era of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, decades before Harry Potter and half a world away.

In 1926 New York, something mysterious is leaving a path of destruction, threatening to expose the wizarding community to fanatical No-Majs (American for Muggles) bent on eradicating them. And the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, after wreaking havoc in Europe, is now nowhere to be found.

Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in the city nearing the end of a global excursion to research and rescue magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in his nondescript leather case. Unsuspecting No-Maj Jacob Kowalski inadvertently lets some of Newt’s beasts loose in the city – a serious breach of the Statute of Secrecy that former Auror Tina Goldstein jumps on, seeing a chance to regain her post. However, things take an ominous turn when Percival Graves, the enigmatic Director of Magical Security, casts his suspicions on Newt…and Tina.

Now allied, Newt and Tina, together with Tina’s sister Queenie and Jacob, form a band of unlikely heroes who must recover Newt’s missing beasts. The stakes are higher than they ever imagined as their mission puts them on a collision course with dark forces that could push the wizarding and No-Maj worlds to the brink of war.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Reviews

“With dazzling effects and wondrous new characters, J.K. Rowling's world of witchcraft and wizardry is back with a 1920s steampunk feel.” – Concrete Playground

“Move over Harry. The Potterverse has a new hero. Newt Scamander, played with bags of beguiling, diffident charm by Eddie Redmayne, takes on the boy wizard's mantle and proves that JK Rowling has conjured up another winner.” – Movie Talk

“Like Newt's battered suitcase it's frequently unhinged. And it's that strangeness is what makes this proto-Potter enchanting and a promising first chapter.” – New Zealand Herald
