Description

Much has been written in recent years about psycholinguistic processing and its application to the assessment of children and adults with language disorders, but there has been little published discussion of its application to treatment. This book offers a contribution to this area. Each chapter is written by a speech and language therapist specialising in psycholinguistic approaches to investigation and intervention. Authors were invited to present a single case in one of four given areas - speech processing, lexical processing, sentence processing and pragmatics. The editors have provided introductions to each subject area and a discussion of the findings at the end of each section. Of particular interest in this work is the search for commonalities between therapy for children and adults with comparable difficulties. Although similarities are often noted by clinicians, never before has work deliberately set out to address this issue. This theme runs throughout the book culminating in a comprehensive overview of the area. The book is aimed at all those with an interest in adults or children with language disorder, and especially those with an interest in the process of intervention itself. The book should therefore be of value to speech and language therapists, teachers - particularly those working with children with special needs, clinical and educational psychologists and neurologists.
