This is a short (20,000 word) history of the United States in the time of President Franklin Pierce. Included in the Fable of Contents are segments on the Tony Burns Riot, the Caning of Senator Sumner, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the Ostend Manifesto, the Erie Peanut War, the Perry Mission to Japan, troubles in Utah, and the Elections of 1852 and 1856. Pierce was a Doughface who never warmed up to Lincoln. The New Hampshire President liked to have a few drinks now and then. Author Biography:

Mike Donovan is a stand-up comedian, writer and radio talk show host. He appears on WBZ radio in Boston as an historian, and then in the night clubs as a comedian. He was born in Boston in 1955 and was a radio DJ in Hammondsport, New York in 1974-75. He has worked as a reporter for Sports Illustrated Magazine.
