Description

For over fifty years, I have tried to find a thorough and compelling argument in the debate between Calvinism and Arminianism. So far, I have not found any to be satisfying. What I did find, however, is that Reformed Theology (Calvinism) is based on a great deal of poor exegesis and misinformation. There are many things about Calvinism that are appealing which makes the theology very alluring. A deeper examination, however, reveals that often Calvinism fails the honesty test. After fruitlessly searching for a thorough exposition of one of the two views, I finally decided to write one myself. Thus, this book is my attempt to show the many reasons Christians believe in Calvinism while simultaneously demonstrating why they shouldn't. This book is not written for the scholar but for the laity. While many learned theologians are quoted within the pages of the book, the intended audience is the average Christian who seeks a resolution to the Calvinism/Arminianism debate. How many souls are (like I was once) desperately searching for answers, I do not know. I can only pray they find the peace I have found, even if they fail to read this particular work.

Author Biography:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Gil VanOrder, Jr. received a B.A. degree in psychology from Houghton College and began a Masters program at Fuller Theological Seminary which was interrupted when he moved to Hawaii in 1990. While in Hawaii he directed a homeless shelter for Catholic Charities for seven years. He has over twenty years experience in full-time youth evangelism including work with Youth For Christ and Young Life. At various times he also served as a church youth director. Today, he lives just north of Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife, Sandee. They have two children and five grandchildren. He and his wife are members of Sugarloaf United Methodist Church in Suwanee, Georgia. In addition to God Predestined Salvation, Gil has written several other books including Jesus or Mohammed: Love or Law which compares the founder of Christianity with the founder of Islam showing the profound differences between the two. This book grew out of Gil's personal experiences working with urban youth involved in a racist Muslim cult. In his book 8 Ways to Show Your Kids You Love Them, Gil shares lessons he learned as a father of both a son and a daughter. His most recent work is entitled, Blindfolded: Why We Can't See God which describes the things that block our vision of the Almighty. Eric Liddell said in the movie Chariots of Fire that when he ran he felt God's pleasure. Gil says when he writes he feels God's pleasure. He's convinced this particular book was written with a great deal of leading by the Spirit of God. You may contact the author by emailing him at vogil@vanorders.net.
