Author Biography:

Historian Thomas D. "Tom" Perry was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, made famous on The Andy Griffith Show as Mayberry. Perry grew up in Ararat, Virginia, just up the road from the birthplace of J. E. B. Stuart, which he led the preservation efforts in the 1990s. Studying history at Virginia Tech under James I. Robertson, Jr., Perry is the author, editor, or publisher of over fifty books on regional history.
